Dementia Care

What is Dementia

Dementia encompasses a range of symptoms that affect cognitive functions such as memory, language, and emotional regulation. It is primarily caused by diseases which damage the brain, with Alzheimer's being the most prevalent.

As dementia progresses, individuals often experience a gradual worsening of these symptoms, leading to greater challenges in daily life.

The loss of memory and awareness can render even the simplest tasks—such as eating, maintaining continence, and recalling recent events or familiar faces—difficult or, in some cases, impossible, depending on the stage of the condition.

Hiring a Professional Dementia Carer

Providing care for a person afflicted by dementia can be challenging for many reasons, but this does not necessarily mean that your loved one must be moved to a care home. In fact, hiring a professional carer offers the same advantages while allowing the individual to remain in a familiar environment and retain a degree of independence.

Dementia can lead caregivers to focus solely on the disability, overlooking the many things the person can still do. Our goal is to adopt a holistic approach to dementia care, addressing not only the daily challenges posed by the condition but also encouraging and assisting individuals to live their lives to the fullest.

Our carers assist with various tasks that a person with dementia may need help with, such as dressing, bathing, medication management, meal preparation, and memory exercises. The primary focus of our carers is to enhance the quality of life for your loved one, ensuring they can enjoy life to the fullest despite the challenges of their condition.

Help caring for someone with dementia

It is generally advised that those living with dementia should not be left alone, as they require both assistance and supervision to ensure their safety and well-being.

There are few options for those faced with such a challenge. The two most common ones are providing care ourselves, or hiring a professional.

Providing care for someone with dementia can be a daunting task, especially when juggling multiple responsibilities, and considering the toll it often takes on one's life and family.

In order to help with that, we provide the Dementia Consultancy service, which hopefully will help with better understanding and managing the new challenge.

Part of that belief is the idea that care-giving is more than tending to the physical needs. It’s also about emotional support and companionship.
